Welcome to ozdiary, a directory of leisure, entertainment and lifestyle on the internet. Having been created in Australia, each section has a segment devoted to Australian sites on that subject, however the international links make ozdiary equally useful to web surfers in other countries. A great deal of information on an innumerable number of subjects is available on the worldwide web, but finding what you want is not always easy. With search engines, the idea is to type in a word and the search engine gives a list of sites and pages it has found which contain that word. Unfortunately, they often give you thousands of options, which must then be sifted through to find the one you want. Alternatively, you can use subject directories which are often part of search engines. These narrow the options down considerably, but often businesses must pay a fee to be part of the directory, therefore the results shown by a directory can be just a fraction of the options available.
Ozdiary is not designed as a replacement for either search engines or directories, rather, a path through the internet jungle, utilising the best directories and search engines on the internet to help you find the information you require quickly and easily. On specialised subjects within the broad categories of leisure, entertainment, lifestyle and Australian tourism, ozdiary has already searched the worldwide web for you and gives you a direct link to a vast array of specific topics within those categories. Naturally there are others sites we haven’t listed – those we have chosen were found to be excellent starting or finishing points on their particular subjects. If the site we have listed doesn’t have the information you need, specialised search engines and subject directories are on hand to help you further.
The concept of ozdiary was not to show off our abilities in web page design, rather to provide a wealth of information and links in an easy-to-follow, easy-to-find format. Hence, its design is functional, rather than artistic. Knowing how frustrating it can be waiting for pages to load, we have designed the pages to load as quickly as possible by keeping graphics down to a minimun. As some pages contain hundreds of links, they will take a little longer to load than others, but overall, you’ll find our pages open quickly. Unfortunately, we have no control over the pages ozdiary is linked to, therefore many will take longer to load than ours.
The ozdiary site is segregated into the following categories:
OZDIARY: a diary of what’s on Australia-wide, including performing arts (music, theatre, dance, opera etc.), television, cinema, art and exhibitions. This section is constantly being updated.
NETSURFER’S PARADISE: a host of links to a multitude of subjects in the general categories of leisure, entertainment and lifestyle, both Australiawide and worldwide.
WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HAPPENING TODAY?: Find out what is happening in over 100 countries and 1,000 towns and cities around the globe. Read their local newspapers, listen to their local radio broadcasts, learn about what sort of weather they’ll be experiencing today, and see hundreds of places live on webcams, satellite pictures and more. Find out what live broadcasts you can tune into on the internet today, or simply discover everything possible that there is to know about today. For a good start to every day, you can arrange for a joke to be emailed to you, read a word of inspiration or download a different font or animated gif for your website each day.
DOWN-UNDER: Designed for use by locals, tourists and holidaymakers alike, Down-Under is a fast-find Australia-wide guide to places to go and things to do, with hotlinks to all regions of the country, each providing information on how to get there, where to stay, what to see, local businesses etc. Visitors to Australia are provided with a wealth of information about Australia, including transport, accommodation, activities, attractions, tours, passports and visas. From Down-Under, they can gain easy access to Australian tourism guides in English and many other languages, and find details of travel agents in their home country who specialise in travel, holidays and tours to Australia.
In addition to links to the existing regional tourist guides on the internet, Down-Under has embarked upon the production of a series of comprehensive guides to the major tourist areas of Australia. Unlike many such guides which promote a specific chain or limited group of tourism service providers, these guides will be fully comprehensive, and include details of all related business, whether those businesses elect to advertise in the directory or not. This will give prospective visitors the full picture of what is on offer, thereby enabling them to better plan their trip or holiday. All directory entries are hotlinked to related websites and other tourism directories at no charge, and pages are available to businesses wishing to promote their services to visitors to Down-Under. For more information on this service, contact Maree Ovens by telephone on (02) 9553 8343.
Our first ozdiary Region Guide, to Sydney and its environs, is now complete and accessible through Down-Under, a similar guide to Southern Queensland is in production, and guides to other areas are planned for the future. These guides will be linked to existing tourist, leisure and travel sites covering every corner of the country, bringing a complete picture of what Ausralia and its regions have to offer.
HOT PROPERTIES: A guide to real estate properties for sale or auction in Australia. The site has commenced with Sydney only, but other areas will be added in the future.
